Eg Smart Light

2012, internship, project by MyCO2

Eg is an eco-friendly lamp that uses color to inform its owner about home energy usage, cost and environmental impact. The goal is to encourage a more responsible use of electricity.

As part of my internship at MyCO2, I was in charge of prototyping an Arduino version of the lamp that could connect to the online platform and retrieve the current information about electricity consumption in France. The lamp would thus change its color depending on the country’s energy demand. Green for low demand and red for high demand ( when heavy fossil-fuel power stations active).

For this prototype I created an RGB led shield and coded the program onto the Arduino. I also designed a series of shapes for the lamp and searched for glass artisans and manufacturers.
